Over the years, we have hand milked at lot of cows here on Howland Homestead Farm. Most of them have been our Randall cattle, but in our early days we milked a lot of dairy crosses and a Jersey or two. Sometimes friends and guests have joined us at milking time, and some have wanted to hand milk a cow.
For many of those, the experience was their first real contact with a live cow. This page serves as a sort of "Hall of Fame" for some of our "Guest Milkers". Unfortunately, this gallery is incomplete, and represents only those milkers whose visit coincided with the presence of a camera in the barn.
We believe that hand milking a cow on Howland Homestead Farm is an essential item on everyone's life list of accomplishments, along with space travel, running a marathon, getting a hole in one, or winning the Nobel Prize. We are grieved to think of the number of future epithets that will read: "Yes, I conquered Everest, but if only I'd hand milked a cow on Howland Homestead Farm!"
